While attempting to stop the mob from attacking the suspects, the police officer sustained a forehead injury, according to Chief Superintendent Isaac Baah, the Akatsi South Municipal Police Commander, who described the event to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He said that the event occurred when Etse Datsomor, a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the crime, and his men returned from the scene of the purported murder act.

The GNA reported that this situation resulted in a gathering of some rowdy youngsters and locals at the Akatsi Police station who demanded the offenders’ release so they could carry out “immediate justice.”

However, the rapid deployment of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Police Service and the early intervention of the MCE for the region were required to restore order.

The accused were later sent to an undisclosed place while they awaited their next court appearance on Friday, June 2, 2023.

Since then, security at the police station has been stepped up as ongoing inquiries into the event continue.

In relation to the injuries sustained by the police officer who is undergoing medical care, one suspect was detained.
